About Us (Our History)
The Kapolei Foundation was officially organized in April 2002. However, its roots go back to 1999 when foundation founder, Keola Lloyd, organized its first fund-raiser, The Taste At Kapolei. First year proceeds were $19,000 and a very successful fund-raiser was born. The "Taste" became the most successful culinary event ever to be held in Leeward Oahu. As the event grew in size and scope, the Kapolei Foundation was formed to manage both the event and the Foundation Scholarship Awards process. The Rotary Club of Kapolei supported the Foundation’s Taste At Kapolei as a service organization and provided invaluable assistance. Until 2008, they also served as the “face” of the Foundation with regards to the scholarships awards process. In 2008, the Foundation became the benefactor of proceeds from the new Hawaii Wine & Food Events, also produced by Keola Lloyd. Starting in 2010, the Foundation then partnered with renowned jazz artist Michael Paulo from 2010-2014 with the Pacific Rim Jazz Festival. Currently, the Kapolei Foundation board of directors are seeking corporate support from businesses within the Kapolei Community.
Our special thanks for the generosity of so many Hawaii businesses and other benefactors who support our efforts. The Kapolei Foundation, since its inception, has had the honor and privilege to award almost $1.3 million in scholarships and other education related grants. To date, over 370 Leeward area students have received scholarships from the Kapolei Foundation.
